Many sources consider the different types of naga as synonymous with each other. The varieties appear similar and are alike in their extreme hotness, but there are a lot of different genetics at play. For example, the traditional bhut jolokia is red, but this special variety has been selected to have yellow fruits. The bhut jolokia derives from India, and was genetically selected to make the Guiness record holder (Dorest Naga) in Dorset, England. It is reportedly nearly twice as hot as the previous record holder, the Red Savina (also available). However, true pepper connoisseurs are aware that there are a number of different peppers that can be equally hot, especially since conditions can affect the heat of a pepper.
Warning: Direct consumption of these peppers can be dangerous. Even handling the seeds can cause irritation.
