Ocimum Sanctum (syn. Tenuiflorum), better known as Holy Basil or Tulsi, is a sacred, medicinal, aromatic and culinary herb. Holy basil has a high content of Eugenol, which is an aromatic oil that is found in other herbs such as cloves, nutmeg and bay leaf. Eugenol gives holy basil its scent and its flavor, which is frequently utilized in Thai cuisine. The leaves are excellent in salads or as a tea. Eugenol is also reported to have painkilling and antioxidant properties that lend to some of Holy Basil’s herbal uses. Known as Tusli in India, Holy Basil is one of the most important Ayurvedic herbs. Tulsi is used for everything from colds to asthma to stomach problems to inflammation. Tulsi is also said to have anti-bacterial and even possible anti-cancer properties. It is also rich in vitamins A, C and calcium. Holy Basil is also classified as an adaptogen, which refers to herbs that are believed to have an overall benefit to the body and which help boost immunity and protect the body from stress. In Hinduism, Tulsi is considered a sacred plant, and it is worshipped in the mornings and evenings. Plants are traditionally grown in the courtyard or sometimes in the home by the front door for good luck. Some homes even have special structures built to house their Tulsi plants. Tulsi is also mixed with holy water and given out in temples. This actually ends up serving a double purpose as an insect repellant. Tulsi leaf is also chewed as a substitute for the betel leaf in betel quids, especially by those who are trying to kick a betel habit. Holy basil plants are also beneficial to the garden because they attract bees that will help pollinate your garden and improve yields of other crops. THESE SEEDS ARE NON_VIABLE
